Ginger and Smart fashion and lifestyle accessories have developed a niche market that oozes the words and feelings of sophistication, lifestyle, relaxation and pure class. The two red headed sisters who grew up in England and Australia, Alexandra and Genevieve Smart launched their label in 2002 with the release of scented candles. Alexandra had spent ten years working in magazine publishing and marketing, and Genevieve held the position of head designer for Fashion label Lisa Ho for six whole years. The combined experience and drive to work together led to the creation of the Ginger and Smart spa collection including scented candles and other luxe products such as moisturizers, facial creams and eye masks. The original concept was developed after Genevieve was in hospital and craved luxce goodies rather than the normal gift of flowers and chocolates. “We realized that luxe was not about the money spent, but rather the way things made you feel, so we developed and launched the Ginger and Smart spa range,” Alexandra says.

Since the Ginger and Smart accessories launch in 2002, the label has expanded its collection to not only include the lifestyle spa collection, but also the Ginger and Smart clothing and fashion accessories range. The most recent 2007 summer range includes fashion items such as shoes, bags, handbags, belts, eye pads, lip balm, hand cream, soap, body and hand wash. You can now buy Ginger and Smart items directly online, or from over 100 boutique shops throughout Australia, over 30 stores internationally including the world famous Browns Focus in London and Le Bon Marche in Paris. The label has succeeded in opening a flagship Ginger and Smart store on William St, Paddington, Sydney in late 2006.

Ginger and smart are probably most recognized for their signature handbags, woven scarfs and luxury accessories. However, their step into the fashion realm has been well received to say the least. It is only what you would expect from an ex-head fashion designer of Lisa Ho and ex-magazine marketer for over a decade. The combination is a lethal balance of beauty, sexiness, relaxation and luxury. It is quite amazing what the Ginger and Smart label has achieved in such a short period of time. It is hard to imagine what else Ginger and Smart can achieve over the next few years. We anticipate that the latest fashion and accessories release (and the artistic name of that release!) will live up to the high expectations Ginger and Smart has created.
